The MaculaTester® - A New Way to Monitor Visual Function!

Diseases that affect the macula, such as macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy, are significant contributors to blindness worldwide. Early detection is crucial in the fight against these macular diseases.

This vision test is a simple yet effective tool to identify early changes that could indicate a macula problem caused by diabetes or macular degeneration.

The MaculaTester (Pat. No. 8,047,652) is an interactive version of the Amsler Grid, a standard test used by eye doctors for over 50 years to assess macular function.

Patients often notice image distortion as the first visual change associated with these conditions. Since this distortion can be subtle and challenging to detect initially, the Amsler Grid helps to detect it as early as possible while still treatable.

Typically, doctors provide patients with a card containing an Amsler Grid to perform self-tests at home between eye exams. However, many patients lose or forget to use it.

The MaculaTester offers the same functionality as the Amsler Grid but with several distinct advantages:

 <li>Interactive features enable you to record areas of distortion by touching the screen. The recorded images are saved with date and time information, allowing you to share them with your doctor and compare them to previous images for any significant changes.</li>
 <li>It can be conveniently used on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch, reducing the risk of misplacement.</li>
 <li>Regular interval reminders ensure you won't forget to perform the test.</li>
</ul>

Please note that this app is intended solely for early screening of macular dysfunction and not as a diagnostic tool for macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, or any other disease. It does not replace an examination by a qualified eye care professional.
